Holiday Greetings!

The December holidays are upon us, bringing joy, togetherness, twinkling lights, and good cheer. For our PPBMWR club, it’s a chance to celebrate the season with some special two-wheeled adventures (why not! It's Colorado!!). Keep your ears posted to FB as several members are great at organizing rides when the weather is nice.  Consider a festive group ride to take in neighborhood light displays. Bundle up, fire up your bikes, and cruise through streets lined with colorful decorations. Stop at a local diner or pub afterwards to raise a mug of hot cocoa or mulled wine.

As we look ahead to the Christmas season, let's also plan to attend our club's infamous annual after-Christmas party - The Procrastinator's Party on Saturday, January 20th. It's our time as a club to relax after the busy holidays, trade stories about new BMW accessories we received, and participate in our annual gift exchange. And it's never too late to embrace the holiday spirit.  Be sure to RSVP.

The December nights may be long and cold, but the warmth of the season and camaraderie with fellow BMW enthusiasts and your families makes winter all the more enjoyable. Happy holidays to all!

REMINDER: Upcoming Events!

Some of you have heard the news (Thanks Jay!) that BMW Motorad is offering a "mileage-related replacement of the cardan shaft... free of charge for customers over the entire life of the vehicle, even if the replacement limit has been reached several times and regardless of the vehicle's age."  "..It only affects the R 1200, R 1250 and 1300 models. Other series (R nineT, K 1600, etc.) are not affected."

I (Andy) did a search on BMW MOA sites and cannot confirm the original source.  Please see these reference links for more information and the full article:

Embracing Winter Adventures: Essential Tips for Cold-Weather Motorcycle Riding

Riding a motorcycle in winter

Winter riding isn't just reserved for the fair-weather months. As the temperatures drop and snowflakes begin to fall, adventure riders can gear up for a whole new level of exhilaration. In this blog, we'll explore essential tips to make your winter motorcycle journeys not only possible but enjoyable.

Essential Gear Checklist:

Before embarking on a winter adventure, it's crucial to ensure you have the right gear. Invest in heated gear, such as gloves and vests, to keep yourself warm during the chilly rides. Additionally, opt for windproof and waterproof layers to shield against the elements. Remember, staying warm and dry is key to a comfortable winter ride.

Motorcycle Maintenance Tips:

Your motorcycle needs a bit of TLC to handle the winter conditions smoothly. Check your tire pressure regularly, as it tends to drop in colder temperatures. Switch to winter-grade oil to ensure proper lubrication in chilly weather. Give your battery some attention – colder temperatures can affect its performance, so ensure it's in top condition before hitting the road.

Safety Precautions:

Winter riding requires a different approach to safety. Adjust your riding style to accommodate for potentially slippery surfaces, and always keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Be extra cautious on bridges and overpasses, as these areas tend to ice up faster. Ensure your visibility is optimal by keeping your lights on and wearing reflective gear.

Emergency Preparedness:

No matter how well-prepared you are, unexpected challenges can arise. Carry a winter emergency kit that includes essentials like a flashlight, first aid supplies, and a small tool kit. Familiarize yourself with basic motorcycle maintenance tasks in case you need to make quick roadside repairs. Having a plan for unexpected situations will boost your confidence on winter rides.

Conclusion:

Embrace the winter riding experience with the right preparation. By investing in the proper gear, maintaining your motorcycle, practicing safety precautions, and being prepared for emergencies, you can turn the colder months into an exciting adventure. Winter riding opens up a whole new world of stunning landscapes and unique experiences, so don't let the chilly temperatures keep you off the road. Gear up, stay safe, and enjoy the thrill of winter motorcycling. Happy riding!

What is important to you?

Inspiration from the "Two Beers" story
Thank you Jay Kuhns for sharing!

"Today is an opportunity for positive change"
Dr. Mary Edna Davidson, Ph. D.

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

  • The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
  • The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car..
  • The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children.

Spend time with your parents.

Visit with grandparents.

Take your spouse out to dinner.

Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter.

Set your priorities.

The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.' The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

Cheers!
